Review Sea of Stars by Amy A Bartol (Book two - Kricket series)

Eighteen-year-old Kricket Hollowell was looking for her place in the world when she discovered that the universe was bigger—and more dangerous—than she had ever dreamed. Now, whisked across space to the planet Ethar, Kricket learns that her genetic ability to see the future makes her a sought-after commodity…and the catalyst for war between her star-crossed parents’ clans. According to Alameedan prophecy, one house will rise to power and the other will be completely wiped out, and Kricket’s precognition is believed to be the weapon that will tip the scales.

A target of both the Rafe and the Alameeda houses, Kricket finds protection—and a home—in the arms of Trey, her Etharian bodyguard-turned-boyfriend. But her visions of what’s to come disturb her deeply, especially since she must discover whether the gift of foresight will allow her to rewrite the future, or if her fate is as immovable as the stars.

My Review & Thoughts
Cover: Beautiful peek to whats to come to the leading lady Kricket. I also love when Authors stick with the same theme for their series!
Genre(s): Sci Fi, Urban Fantasy, maybe New Adult
Tag(s): Action, Priestess, New World, Alpha(s), Hot, Love
Romance: Surprising readers with a dip into the 'steamy' side of love!

Sea of Stars took me on an exhilarated futuristic ride throwing in emotions of love, anger, and hope.

Imagine a mix of movies, The Fifth Element, Total Recall, with colors and creatures of Avatar in its own originality, written beautifully vivid...that's all in the Sea of Stars! Sci Fi lovers this is a must read! I was excited  SUPER thrilled, doing the jig when I received an advance copy of one of my favorite Authors! I wanted to hide myself in a dark corner and indulge into this book all night BUT realistically I couldn't (hubby and my little one wouldn't appreciate that-bwahhah).

"If Kyon brings you back here, I will kill you," she promises. "Run, Little Kricekt. Run far away."

It took me a few days to take this book all in. The writing is vividly drawn out that I had to take breaks and think it all over again...Mrs Amy A Bartol dived in vastly improving her writing and tampering into the naughty side of romance. It was all done tastefully attractive and subtly simple.
"Show me what it feels like to be yours." -Kricket

Fans of this series will not be disappointed with the time the Author put into it, clearly shows with all the details and twining plot lines. So much is happening in this one itty book!

Kricket I’ve always been in a jam with her since book one. I do think she has so much potential for being a heroine that many can love but she is stuck. Hung up on her ‘bad-ass’ past and gushing about Trey’s perfect body! None the less, Kricket shows her snarky

What I loved about this book:
->>The action and adventure that Kricket takes us on. She goes through borderline death defining  obstacles.
->>Trey does not disappoint with his rugged, demanding demeanor
->>Kyon my poor villain! As I mentioned in previous reviews, I have a soft spot for my 'bad-guys'! (cough-cough Brennus) He definitely has some surprises in this installment.
"Kricket! If you make me chase you again, I will kill him!" -Kyon

"Don't make me fall in love with you, priestess."

Now here it comes...the drawn out wait time for the next book! WHY!! Of course, as always I will be looking out  stalking the Authors pages for updates. I should have none I was going to be left

Whats the first thing I do after I finish Sea of Stars (other than cursing the author) look for anticipated date of book three.

Must read book one Under Different Stars to understand book two.
Huge, TREMENDOUS cliffhanger
Highly Recommended! Sci Fi buffs Must Read!
Thank you NetGalley for ARC for a honest review.

Mini Excerpt
"Sorry to disappoint you. I'll be the one communicating with you while you're with the Alameeda."
I scoff at that. The arrogance! "Keep dreaming. I'm never speaking to you again, lost boy. This is it for us. You should say good-bye now."
He growls, "You should stop thinking of just yourself! There are people counting on us not to fail, you ignorant child!"
"You must be my fathers favorite," I retort, like that's a bad thing.
"I am," he agrees with pride.
"Well, I'm the one he threw away, so I don't think I owe you, or him, or anyone else anything."

Review Forsworn by Emily Wibberley (The Last Oracle Series)

Clio can see the future, but what she doesn’t know about her past could destroy her.

It’s been a year since Clio made her sacrifice to the Deities and embraced her destiny as the Oracle to save her people.

The only family she has left is a brother who wants her dead.

The prince, her oldest friend, is a king with his own agenda.

And the man who once loved her, now hates her.

All she can do is try to forget about Riece, the enemy commander whose heart she broke to save his life, as she serves the Deities. Her days are filled with Visions and bloodshed in a never-ending war against the Untouched. To add to her problems, she must pose as King Derik’s mistress to conceal her forbidden powers from the Emperor’s spies.

When Riece unexpectedly returns to Sheehan with a new and beautiful ally, Clio knows she must put him out of her mind once and for all, but first, they are thrust together into battle against a mysterious Untouched warrior with otherworldly power. To reclaim her city, she must team up with the man she hurt, the man she still loves but can never be with, and finally confront the questions about her origin—questions with answers that Clio may not be prepared to face.

My Review and Thoughts

"Sometimes I look at you, and I still see my Clio. But I have to remind myself                                                     that she was never real -only made up of your lies."

Lets take a moment to appreciate that cover!!! Love the badass chic warrior on it and it sure does represent Clio, our leading lady to the fullest in this story!

Now, this is one of my favorite series of 2015 from the debut Author Emily Wibberley. I was honored to receive book two for my honest review. (Thank you!) If you haven't read book one here is my review Here

Clio's story continues in book two. She is now the Oracle, a wanted person for sacrificing in the city of Morek and is the mistress/advisory/Warrior to King Derik. Riece has become Commander of his city once again, Morek, and is on his own mission - away from Clio. (Book one Clio left Riece - tragic)

"The Untouched follow me, but as you've no doubt noticed by my remarkable powers of articulation. I am not one of them. My name is Daizon."

The Untouch still reek havoc in their cities but this time it is with the aid of a Diety. Clio is branded by an unknown mark, threatening her visions. Before she knows it, it is to late and the city is no longer protected. Seeking the help of Riece, Clio is determined to avenge her city. BUT it is not that easy with an almighty Dieties threatening her way, hiding from the Emperor, AND putting up with Riece's betrothed. (Yes I said it!! <-- be ready ladies)

"And now we'll die together, executed side by side on the pyramid where we first met. I suppose the ending is rather fitting."

Why I still LOVE this series:

-The action is non stop! It's always moving and throwing in different obstacles making this story a quick one to read. The twist that Ms Wibberley threw in here - building up for book three is pretty epic. I can't wait to see what the future has for Clio.

-It leaves lasting thoughts. You know some books that you think about after their done with about a week ago and still thinking of them? That is this story!

-Riece and Clio's chemistry is one of my favorites to read. I love Riece! He is still the wise ass, over protective warrior. I must admit, I wanted to strangle him the first half of the story but he came back around. If you want a swoon worthy character - look no further, Riece is everything!

"Riece sat up, rubbing his neck where her blade had been. "Maybe you should, I don't know, look before you tear someone's throat out?"

-Clio! Clio comes out with full vengeance in this book. She is no longer frail or soft. NO. Dressed in armor, daggers, and has a three vessels that are just as fierce as she is, Clio is entertaining and taking names.

-It's not a cliche of Fantasy! It's in its own world with re-freshen characters. If you like kick ass females -  this is the book for you!

"The Oracle must pair with a Deity. He gives her more children capable of bearing Sight."

Cliffhanger Warning - There is a book three in the works!!
Highly recommended read

Short Review Loyalty and Lies by L.A. Cotton

Eighteen-year-old Savanah Parry just moved three thousand miles across state to escape. The memories…the whispers…the pain.

Chastity Falls Academy is supposed to be her fresh start; her salvation. And when Ana meets mysterious Jackson, she begins to think it is. She hasn’t smiled in almost sixteen months; not since the night her life changed forever, and despite her guilt…her loyalty, Ana can’t deny that Jackson is breathing life back into her. With Jackson by her side, Ana wants to believe she can heal and move on. But she isn’t the only one living a lie, and the small private Academy has secrets of its own. All is not what it seems, and Ana is about to find herself in a tangled web of lies; fighting for survival, again.

Loyalties will be tested, lies will be told. Welcome to Chastity Falls.

My Review & Thoughts...

I really liked how this book started, it was mysterious, edgy, and Savanah was a likable lead - but then it just got weird... If I had to hear Ana's roomie one more time 'say' 'chica' - it was over (20 times over) used. Every sentence of the roomie included 'chica' - it was annoying and very distracting.

I had high expectations of the BIG secret. I even thought hmm maybe there's some paranormal aspect mixed in, it sure did feel like it. No, a big disappointed. I have no clue what kind of brotherhood it is was whatever the big secret was/is because I still don't get it. The ending was another disappointment - after all that build up and it deflated...fast to another weird 'cult' scene that had me cursing the book. It lasted one chapter and boom all is good in Savanah's world. The story had so much potential in becoming an amazing story till the awkward story of Braiden ownership of Jackson... Maybe because the biggest secret wasn't revealed in this book had me lost and therefor has to be mid average rating...it read unfinished with possibly the biggest cliffhanger I've read.

Book Blitz Naked by Stacey Trombley

Naked
Release Date: 07/07/15
Entangled Teen
305 pages

Summary from Goodreads:
The best place to hide is in a lie…

I could never fit in to the life my parents demanded. By the time I was thirteen, it was too much. I ran away to New York City…and found a nightmare that lasted three years. A nightmare that began and ended with a pimp named Luis. Now I am Dirty Anna. Broken, like everything inside me has gone bad.

Except that for the first time, I have a chance to start over. Not just with my parents but at school. Still, the rumors follow me everywhere. Down the hall. In classes. And the only hope I can see is in the wide, brightly lit smile of Jackson, the boy next door. So I lie to him. I lie to protect him from my past. I lie so that I don’t have to be The Girl Who Went Bad.

The only problem is that someone in my school knows about New York.

Someone knows who I really am.

And it’s just a matter of time before the real Anna is exposed…
About the Author
Stacey Trombley lives in Ohio with her husband and the sweetest Rottweiler you’ll ever meet. She thinks people are fascinating and any chance she has, she’s off doing or learning something new. She went on her first mission trip to Haiti at age twelve and is still dying to go back. Her “places to travel” list is almost as long as her “books to read” list.

She wants to bring something new to the world through her writing, but just giving a little piece of herself is more than enough.

Keep a look out for her debut novel NAKED, coming from Entangled Teen in 2015

Short Review The Story of US (Carnage 1) by Lesley Jones

I love him, from the instant I set eyes on him when I was just 11 years old I have loved him and nothing will ever change that, he owns me, he owns my heart and he owns my body and no matter how many lies are told, no matter how many people conspire to keep us apart, despite the fame and the distance, we will find a way.
"Georgia Rae, when we made love you used to cry" ... He waits for me to sing my bit. I try to swallow down a sob but I just end up singing through it...
"I said I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
Carnage is an edgy coming of age love story that breaks all the rules and transcends the decades. Georgia and Sean's story will stay with you long after you read the final word.
An emotional, smoking hot, gut wrenching read.

My Review

This was a long winded story that had me eventually dislike (strongly) each character! It was a mix of cliche and unbelievable situation.  Georgia Rae (<---really) one of those female leads you want to throw the book at a few times, then yes this is her. From the blurb - I expected a lot more - a lot more emotional connection and a better leading Man - Sean was meh at best. It dragged a bit and lost my interest more than once.

None the less, if you like a lot of raging hormones, bickering love and hate, a bit of cheating, and eyerolling...and the drama rolling - this is the book to read!

For twenty years, the Palomas and the Corbeaus have been rivals and enemies, locked in an escalating feud for over a generation. Both families make their living as traveling performers in competing shows—the Palomas swimming in mermaid exhibitions, the Corbeaus, former tightrope walkers, performing in the tallest trees they can find.
Lace Paloma may be new to her family’s show, but she knows as well as anyone that the Corbeaus are pure magia negra, black magic from the devil himself. Simply touching one could mean death, and she's been taught from birth to keep away. But when disaster strikes the small town where both families are performing, it’s a Corbeau boy, Cluck, who saves Lace’s life. And his touch immerses her in the world of the Corbeaus, where falling for him could turn his own family against him, and one misstep can be just as dangerous on the ground as it is in the trees.
Beautifully written, and richly imaginative, The Weight of Feathers is an utterly captivating young adult novel by a talented new voice.

My Review & Thoughts

The style of this book was very different from the previous bad boy brother's series. Of course Beautiful Disaster being one of my favorite reads sets the expectations of any other book to follow be greater - unfortunately no other brother has done it for me like Travis!

Besides that, Beautiful Redemption has its own story. Liis is a feisty mixture of a chic! She started off with fire and an attitude that sizzled down with her never ending indecisive 'to love or not to love'.

I found both leading character's behavior to be whinny and immature at times - especially with their said profile as a character. The bickering went on for sometime that I eventually said get on with it already. I was expecting a bit more in this book. None the less, I'm entranced into knowing more of each of the brothers!

As mentioned not only is the style of characters different but the hot scenes in this book kicked up ten notches from the previous in the series. I could only imagine what the Author has for in the next in book three!

Review An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.
Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.
But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.
There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.

My Review & Thoughts:
Genre(s): Young Adult, Teen, Fantasy

"All the beauty of the stars means nothing when life here on earth is so ugly." - Laia

This was one of my anticipated reads for 2015, the build up was well rewarded! This is going to be an amazing series I can't wait to follow obsess over!

Laia brother is arrested after her grandparents are murdered right in front of her by the ruthless silver mask guards. Now on the run from the mask, Laia seeks the help of the resistance underground. They must help her...after all her parents were their past leaders before they were betrayed and murdered. Sent as a servant spy under the Commandment, Laia must return information in trade for her brother's planning escape. Not everything is as it seems and there might be a snake closer than she expects.
All Elias wants is to be free...free of being a mask, free from his mother, grandfather...away from it all. He plans to run away after graduating from Blackcliff but plans are put on hold. Elias is put into trails, where he either fights for his life or death. Going through the obstacles, he does not count on meeting Laia and finding out the plots against him.

Within the first few pages, it had my full attention presenting a new order the Martial Empire that is ran by silver mask, lethal guards. There's many secrets, betrayals, and new information evolving throughout the book. Mixed with sinister leaders and vicious new order of power, it had a mixture of dark and disturbing scenarios. The story, setting, world build was refreshing and unique in the young adult genre. I have over 30 spots highlighted in the book I wanted to add to my review - don't want to overload and selected a few of my favorites!

Laia is one of those characters either you love or hate her. The beginning of the book I was the latter... she was annoying, naive, and weak. Fear not, she changes through out the story to a strong female lead who goes through more than can be imagined. Becoming the servant to the sadistic leader of Blackcliff Military Academy - she endures brutality, pain, and deceit.

"Other wounds have replaced them. Three lashes on my legs for a dust stain on my skirt. Four lashes on my wrists for not finishing her mending. A black eye from a Skull in a foul mood."
- Laia

Elias had his own story to tell. He was as much of it, even at times more than Laia. Helena was a great addition to the plot and spinning the story around. She's the only other female mask - other than the Commandment.

"You an ember in the ashes Elias Venturius. You will spark and burn, ravage and destroy. You cannot change it. You cannot stop it."

The story was not focus on the romance but more in building the character's of Elias and Laia. Their connection sparks throughout the book. It's over 400 pages but it breezed on by, the action and anticipation kept it moving. Highly Recommending this book for a summer (anytime) read!
Cliffhanger warning!!

Mini Excerpt
""You think I want to feel this way about you? I hate it, Elias. Watching you flirt with Illustrian girls and sleep with Scholar slaves and find the good in everyone-everyone- but me." A sob escapes her- the only time I've ever heard her cry. She chokes it back. "Loving you is the worst thing that has ever happened to me-worse than the Commnadant's whippings, worse than the Trails. It's torture Elias." She digs a shaking hand into her hair. "You don't know what it's like. You have no idea what I've given up for you, the deal I made-" "What do you mean?" I say. "What deal? Book Room Pick: Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens

For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes... and none of them will ever be the same.

My Thoughts: Warning if you despise three ring action, cheating, heartbreak, damsel in distress this may not be for you! But if your looking for a gush of feeling mix of love and hate, anticipation, and rockstar hotty...than I recommend Thoughtless!! This book had me in a spin! A triangle that had me hating our main chic Kiera but I couldn't put the book down because I wanted-must know how it was going to end!! It's quite a lengthy read but it kept it's paste and my interest. It's a recommend read, in many Goodreads top list!

Review Netherworld and Dark Prophet by K.N. Lee (The chronicles of Koa Book 1-2)

What would you do if a demon threatened your mother's life? If you're like Koa, you'd sharpen your enchanted sword and go after him...
Our world is threatened by the creatures of an alternate land called the Netherworld. Koa and the Netherworld division are there to keep the vampire population in check. Koa is a powerful half-blood vampire. Her best friend is her boss, she has a cursed mother, an enchanted sword, and an attractive human pet.
Koa also has a problem. A Netherworld serial killer, with a taste for little girls, threatens everything Koa has worked hard to protect. Not even Koa's boss, Halston can stop him. But he knows one prisoner that can. Too bad that prison is in the Netherworld.
Is Koa ready to journey to the Netherworld to release the one creature that can break her mother's curse and protect all that she holds dear?

My Review and Thoughts:
Genre(s): Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Teen
Goodreads add here!

“You are the key to our ability to coexist with the human world.”

Netherworld I’m ashamed to say has been on my wishlist for over a year! Finally reading it, I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to jump into action with Koa! This book is filled with my style of reading! A kickass female lead, secrets, hot men, demons, angels, and new worlds…all equal to Pandora’s favorite!

Koa is a feisty firecracker who doesn’t take lightly to the things that bump at night. Even being half vampire, she’s still determined to keep order in her world. With the guidance of Halston, she strives to be the best member of the Netherworld Divison. But there’s many secrets Koa doesn’t know of. In fact a portion of her memory has been tampered with to forget for time being. She doesn’t know why her magical Lyrinian sword beats to the blood of evil or why she has these flashbacks of an unknown life. With her mom cursed as a cat and dead young girls showing up, Koa needs to find who’s behind all of this. Before she knows it, her one ally maybe the one who caused her life in immediate danger and enemy who she helps escape maybe her past lover!

I loved each character that was in this story! Bund fit the part of a sadistic demon. Evina and her special skills was another great addition to the group of misfits. Jax mixed with mystery is added just in time to spin the story around a few times! Koa goes on a journey and shows her skills more than once. The story goes different characters view. Romance is entwine but not the main focus, just enough to keep the gitty smiles!

This book has amazing spins and world building! Koa goes from our world to the dark and creepy Netherworld. The plot line spun in one direction and went a different one…all in a good way! The only question I would have is if the human world knew or how did the vamps come to coexist. Other than that, I highly recommend for fantasy, paranormal readers!

Major Cliffhanger, so have one-click ready! Book two is available to read!
I love it so much the same day I order book two and finished reading!
Thank you NetGalley providing a copy for honest review!

“You know Evina, she is a temptress, and you can’t ask for a better skill than that when it comes to getting other vampires on your side. Al is recruiting others topside to infiltrate Greggan’s organization. And Jax,” Halston paused and Koa tensed at the name. “You are going to free him, because he is the key to killing Greggan and freeing your mother from her curse. Your mother, she is only one who can stop Bund.”

Not all vampires are created equal...
Koa is a half-blood vampire with not only the ability to fly, but survive in the sun's light. She will do anything to protect her mother, and break her curse. The demon, Bund, wants more than her mother's life. He wants something from Koa, a power that she doesn't even know she has, and will rip through as many humans as he can to get her to surrender.
Agent Koa Ryeo-won, and her boss, Halston, formed a crew of supernatural agents to stop Bund. But is a prophet, a temptress, a War-Breeder, a half-blood with an enchanted sword, and a few angels enough to stop what Bund has planned?
In the midst of a war between the humans of the mortal world, and the creatures of the Netherworld, Koa discovers the truth of her past. She finds herself torn between two men, and in the center of everything. Faced with all of her returned memories, Koa also finds herself more powerful than ever. Being a half-blood is hard enough, but what exactly is Koa's other half?
The truth can save...or destroy everything.
Will the Netherworld Division stand behind Koa once they learn her secret?

My Review and Thoughts:

First lets admire this beautiful cover...sigh... Book two continues right off of book one. Koa is reunited with Jax and many secrets are unraveled, a whole past that was erased from Koa's mind!!
Book two adds more spins to the already building plot and NO, we don't get any answers yet (yes there's a book three)

A little steam is introduced with both Halston and Jax...and Koa!!! hehe  What I love about this author is the many unique characters she has created and made it work. Sometimes to many characters can create overload and undeveloped but I think she successfully used them will and revealed others in perfect timing. Of course, I also love how she has more than one kickass female showing their skills! I was bit disappointed that I still don't know why everyone is after Koa!! All we know is there's a demon Bund, Greggan, and who knows who else wanting a piece of Koa. A bit was briefly explained because she walks in daylight and they want mini spawns of her but what else is so grand!!!! Anyways, I still can't wait to book three and still love the series!

"They both wanted the mysterious, prophesized, half-blood princess...but for very different reasons."
Goodreads add book two here

There's no scheduled date for book three but on Ms. Lee's site she does have it that it's in progress!! Authors website update here!
